The summer rain season (aka, the “monsoon”) was late getting started but delivered a record 11 days in a row with measurable rain here in Catalina before sputtering out and leaving us with a modest 2.33 inches compared to the long-term average of 2.81 inches. Rainfall records in Catalina started in 1977 at Our Garden organic produce farm. August hasn’t started well, but afternoon and evening rains should start today (August 5th) as the hiatus in the “monsoon” comes to a welcome end.
I always find it sad, stressful when so much green explodes from the ground as did during the first 17 days after the rains started and now seeing all that green, except in the shaded areas under mesquite trees, fading and withering. Will the rain in the next week or two save those stressed plants?
